The redevelopment of Peckham Square reimagines one of South London’s few true civic spaces, its a place that connects the library, theatre academy, and leisure centre at the heart of the community.
Working with Graeme Massie Architects, Aura Fire developed the Stage 3 Fire Strategy to support the project’s design intent, ensuring the square remains open and accessible whilst meeting the requirements of modern fire safety design.
Our scope included:
- Reviewing the architectural layout to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
- Assessing means of escape, including evacuation routes and travel distances.
- Defining fire compartmentation and fire separation between uses and zones.
- Reviewing firefighter access provisions and external fire spread.
- Advising on structural fire protection requirements for key elements.
- Preparing marked-up floor plans to illustrate the proposed fire safety arrangements.
- Attending design team meetings and liaising with Building Control and other consultants.
- Producing the Stage 3 Fire Strategy Report to document findings and recommendations.
This new scheme considers replacing the existing arch and raised platforms with a series of landscaped zones that includes spaces for play, performance, markets, and water fountains. Its been designed to bring new life to the area and invite people back into the square. By working closely with the architects and wider design team, the fire strategy was carefully integrated into the concept from the outset, allowing safety and creativity to evolve together as part of the same vision.
